MedConnect set out to launch a telemedicine platform capable of supporting secure video consultations across all 50 states — a HIPAA-compliant build from a standing start, with no existing infrastructure to build on. Beyond the compliance bar, physicians using early prototypes flagged a familiar problem: after every consultation, they were spending nearly as much time typing up notes as they'd spent with the patient.

We designed the platform's data layer around HIPAA requirements first — encryption, access logging, and consent tracking — so every later feature, including AI ones, inherited compliant handling of patient data by default rather than needing to be retrofitted.

For the documentation problem, we built an NLP model that reads consultation transcripts and generates a structured clinical summary — chief complaint, assessment, plan — for the physician to review and sign off on, rather than write from scratch. The model was fine-tuned on de-identified clinical note examples so its summaries use the same structure and terminology physicians already expect.

MedConnect launched nationally in 12 months and has since onboarded more than 500,000 patients with a 98% patient satisfaction score. CEO Dr. Priya Nair noted that the NLP summarization model cut physicians' documentation time dramatically — letting them spend that reclaimed time with patients instead of paperwork.
